Ruminations from inside the vast right wing conspiracy.

Sick Again

I have never been this sick in my life. Everything Evelyn brings home Christy and I get. And the traveling back and forth to Washington is just wearing me down — flat down. Something’s gotta give.

At least next week I have jury duty. Yeah, you’d think I could get out of, but I managed to get out of it for six years straight and the clerk says nothing doing this time. I suspect I won’t be doing civil cases, given the potential for conflicts.

And yes mother, I am taking my vitamins. They aren’t helping. Being allergies and colds, my sinuses could just explode.

The Hardest Part of the Job

I’m traveling today. It is really the hardest part of the job at times like this — Evelyn does not feel well and Christy really does not feel well. I hate leaving them at times like this. It leaves an unpleasantness in my conscience.

Yeah!!!!

The 17″ MacBookPro is out. I want one.

Happy 80th Birthday

Day of Reckoning

I flew to DC yesterday. The flight out of Atlanta was really rough, but over Virginia the skies cleared and it was smooth flying.

On landing in Washington we descended smooth. We descended lower and lower and lower until we were over the airport. As we were just passing the first broad white stripes on the ground, with wheels down imminent, the plane surged and the engines whined lowly. The pilot threw up the nose and jerked the plane right. The engines were at full power. We headed, as best I could tell, straight for the Capitol dome.

We flew directly over where they keep Marine One — the President’s helicopter. One of the helicopters was sitting right in the center of the landing pad. I could see the Washington Monument, very close out the window opposite from where I was sitting. Everyone was dead silent and looking at each other. I looked at the guy next to me and said, “We didn’t realize we were suppose to go to Baltimore.” He laughed that laugh that you do when you want to lighten up, but are rather nervous.

The pilot jerked the plane to the right again, heading south by southeast. Finally he came on and said we were having a do over at the landing. He said a commuter plane got on the runway just as we were about to touch down.

I know what was going on in my mind and in the mind of the guy next to me and the women in front of me and behind me. I don’t know what was in the minds of the others, but I bet it was the same thing.

i’ve flown hundreds of times and had that happen numerous times. But only after September 11th did I ever start getting that feeling in my stomach.

Ironically, on the second try, the landing was perhaps the smoothest landing I ever experienced landing at Reagan National.

McClellan Out?

Fox News reports that Tony Snow was approached about Scott McClellan’s job in the White House. I interviewed Tony Snow before and loved listening to him on Limbaugh’s show as a guest host. He is a genuinely warm and nice person. He’s such a nice guy.

Rough Night

We had a rough night last night. We’re all walking zombies today. Evelyn is really, really choked up with allergies. She was up all night struggling. About 4 this morning we put her in bed with up so she could be propped up on some pillows. She couldn’t sleep and decided to play.

At 5 it was back to her bed and two hours of sleep for us. And I fly today. I want an early night and I’m already ready to be back home.

Light Blogging

I have nothing to say except stuff I’m not suppose to say because it would be very partisan.

So light blogging for now.

Sigh.

The Meaning of Easter

From John 20:

1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. 3Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. 4So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. 5And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. 6Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, 7And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. 8Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. 9For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. 10Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. 11But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him. 14And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. 18Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Let’s be frank. There are many paths to eternity, but only one path to eternal salvation — and that is through Christ. There are many religions you can belong to, but only one true religion, one true faith. And the time is coming where you’ll have to pick or not pick. To not pick is the same as picking the wrong belief system.

Happy Easter

I sat through a 15 minute sermon in which scripture was quoted exactly zero times. And the Preacher referred to Christ’s resurrection as something that happens over and over, as opposed to it happening that one time and his death that once being enough for all of us.

Oh, and he referred to the gift of the resurrection as “resurrection candy” and when the candy dispenser is emptied it refills itself. I guess the resurrection candy just isn’t as sufficient as the loaves and fishes with which Christ fed so many. Apparently, unlike this “resurrection candy” the loaves and fishes were never fully used up thereby requiring replenishment.

Not that I expected anything else from the same preacher who once said Christ “supposedly” cast a demon out of man.

Sigh.

Nonetheless, Happy Easter.

  • Peach Pundit

In 2006, my friend Clayton asked if I wanted to start a horse race style blog of Georgia politics. It evolved into a site that tries to cover the state objectively, without just being a place to mouth off the party line. It's been a fun release to get away from right wing activism and just cover politics as a hobby. Check it out at www.peachpundit.com
