Ruminations from inside the vast right wing conspiracy.

If The Clintons Were Italian

Okay, if you only read one thing on this blog today, you must read this. That is truly just hilarious.

“Dear Editor,” began a letter published Wednesday on the front page of La Repubblica, the newspaper that Silvio Berlusconi hates most. The scalding letter demanded a public apology from Berlusconi — and it was signed by his wife.

But Don’t Question Mr. Arkin’s Patriotism

Whoa. Just whoa. You know the clip we had up top about the troops? The one where the soliders said they were tired of people saying they support the troops but oppose the war? You know the one.

Well, Bill Arkin at the Washington Post seems to think that the troops need to shut up because the nation is tired of feeding them and supporting their blood lust. At least, that appears to be his point. He also seems to think that the troops are dupes who would lead a coup to protect the nation from the people if we weren’t the U.S. (and it’s a bloody good thing we are the U.S. so Mr. Akin can use the 1st Amendment to protect himself).

So, we pay the soldiers a decent wage, take care of their families, provide them with housing and medical care and vast social support systems and ship obscene amenities into the war zone for them, we support them in every possible way, and their attitude is that we should in addition roll over and play dead, defer to the military and the generals and let them fight their war, and give up our rights and responsibilities to speak up because they are above society?

He goes on to refer to them as mercenaries who think they are doing dirty work, but that Iraq is not even “necessary” work.

At least Mr. Arkin does not even pretend to support the troops. He would rather, it seems, fire them all or leave them to fend for themselves in Iraq so the nation can resume its self-loathing. We’ll give him points for honesty.

UPDATE: Mason Conservative suggested I should also point out this quote, which immediately precedes the quote above:

Through every Abu Ghraib and Haditha, through every rape and murder, the American public has indulged those in uniform, accepting that the incidents were the product of bad apples or even of some administration or command order.

What a pompous, America hating ass.

Truly One of the Funniest Things on YouTube

It’s even better if you are not a fan of cats.

Dems to Kill “Baby AIDS” program. GOP Trips Over Walk Out.

Get on C-SPAN. At approximately 3:55 p.m. today the House GOP will stage a walk out to protest the Democrats’ omnibus appropriations package in the form of a continuing resolution. The resolution is full of earmarks and other things that are bad news, including protecting Harry Reid’s projects in Nevada. Well, they were suppose to walk about, but it looks like some of the RINO’s killed the walk out and voted for the resolution.

The GOP has discovered in the 24 hours it has had to review the legislation that the legislation wipes out funding for programs designed to prevent AIDS in babies that have virtually wiped out “baby AIDS” in several states and the legislation almost takes away over $16 million in funding for military family housing.

Get on the TV.

[UPDATE: I'm confused about the effectiveness of the House GOP when they cannot even capitalize on the fact that the Dems are killing a successful program to prevent AIDS in infants.]

BSOD

We all know the BSOD — the Blue Screen Of Death — that screen you get when Windows crashes.

Can it not be said that after spending five years and BILLIONS of dollars rolling out Microsoft’s new operating system, Vista, that it is a total failure of form, function, and design that they did not even redesign the blue screen of death?!

Put simply, when Windows inevitably crashes, you will get virtually the same BSOD that you got in Windows 3.1 through XP.

Put another way, I’ve been using my Mac without a reboot for three weeks. The only program I’ve had crash in three weeks has been Microsoft Word. And when it crashed, only it went down. It didn’t take out the computer.

Punchline of the Day

I did an interview during drive time this morning with the Washington Post radio network out of Washington, D.C.

The hosts asked me about Joe Biden’s chances of winning — he announced via email last night that he would be running. I said it would be hilarious to have Joe Biden run as the Dem, Tom Tancredo run as the Republican, and Pat Buchanan’s party put up David Duke. Then we’d have three men who couldn’t set foot in a 7/11 without generating headlines.

I stand by the point.

Yes

I did say this.

“I really feel strongly that if the slate is what we have now, then we’re not going to win in 2008.”

And yes, it did get linked to on the Drudge Report.

This Makes Me Mad

I read Logconservative’s post about the Arizona legislature considering legislation that would label the Minuteman Project, in effect, a “domestic terrorist” organization.

But sure enough, the Arizona legislature wants to make it illegal for organizations like the Minuteman Project to protect America’s borders by labeling them participants in domestic terrorism. Please note the irony that the men and women seeking to enforce the law are to be labeled terrorists and the law breakers sneaking across the border are not.

The law defines domestic terrorism as any group of individuals who associate together “for the purpose of patrolling to detect alleged illegal activity” if any of the individuals “is armed with a firearm or other weapon.”

So, in effect, people cannot peacefully assemble under Amendment 1 of the Constitution if they also are carrying a lawfully issued firearm under Amendment 2 of the Constitution.

Way to support people trying to protect and defend this country, Arizona!a

We’re Inept. Can We Buy Delta?

Good grief. Do we really want U.S. Scareways buying Delta?

HB 115

A tipster wrote in about HB 115 and how it will harm Georgia’s legal community, but having read the law, I am a bit befuddled by why it has even been proposed.

Basically, as it is now, the Supreme Court sets the standards by which an individual can become a lawyer in Georgia. Under this proposed legislation, that will still be the case, but a person can take the bar exam if they move in from out of state and attended a law school in another state that was not accredited, but still allowed the person to practice law in that state.

In essences, some states have law schools that do not meet the rigorous accreditation process of the American Bar Assocation, but nonetheless a student graduating from such a school can practice law in the particular state where the law school was located (I think John Marshall Law School used to be like this). In 2006, my friend Clayton asked if I wanted to start a horse race style blog of Georgia politics. It evolved into a site that tries to cover the state objectively, without just being a place to mouth off the party line. It's been a fun release to get away from right wing activism and just cover politics as a hobby. Check it out at www.peachpundit.com
