Ruminations from inside the vast right wing conspiracy.

Keeping My Composure

So I’m on the phone doing my weekly POTUS ‘08 interview.

As the hosted moved into discussion on Ted Stevens, I hear this voice from the top of the stairs, “Daddy, I got to go potty. Hang up the phone and come on. The pee pee won’t wait for you.”

Hahahaha. Glad I kept my composure.

Is it Okay to Vote Against a Candidate Because of His Race?

The answer to the question is no. It is, in fact, the only acceptable answer and if you think otherwise, RedState is not a good fit for you.

But I ask the question because it raises an important point about the media, the Democrats, and Barack Obama himself.

We are, each year, treated to national media reports on race relations in this country and they invariably discuss white America coming to terms with other races in this country. Very, very rarely does the media ever report on other races coming to terms with white America.

It is not really relevant, frankly, to point out that most black voters are going to vote in droves for Barack Obama. Regardless of his race, black voters would vote for the Democrat. But when you read about Congressman Steve Cohen’s race in Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District, you really are confronted by both racism and anti-semitism in a way we rarely think about in this country. And the media is silent. Barack Obama is silent.

Steve Cohen just might lose his re-election not because he has been ineffective in representing his district, but because he is white. And a number of black members of Congress are happy about that.

Evelyn

Evelyn has been such fun. Yesterday she tells me she is going to have “a lull brother who’s gonna be smart and play in the mud.” Santa Claus is bringing him, according to Evelyn.

Today we played at the river for an hour before coming home. Evie insisted on cooking something for Christy. We went to the store, bought a box mix of chocolate chip cookies, and came home.

Evelyn got out her spoon and stirred the dough together and then I showed her how to drop them on the cookie sheet. She loves to cook.

Then she showed me her latest dance moves as we watched Fraggle Rock.

The Obamessiah Ascends

The Run

I needed to.

I did.

I ran today at the river. 90 degree heat. It was great. Actually, at the river, it’s probably 5 – 10 degrees cooler along the water and in the shade.

I sprinted for a minute and walked for a minute up the trail and back. I feel great for doing it.

Barack Obama Blew Off Troops According to Email Now Retracted by Captain Jeff Porter

Yesterday, I pointed out that it does not matter if Barack Obama actually did blow off the troops, as an email from Captain Jeffrey S. Porter reported to friends and family back home.

The email got onto the internets and spread like wildfire.

The point is not that the email is true. The point is that a lot of people who do not really even pay attention to politics were quick to believe the email was true because it plays directly into the narrative that Obama could care less about the war or the troops.

Some will view this news report from the New York Daily News as further proof that the email was true.

Captain Porter contacted the paper and asked that they delete his email. He wrote that the “email was meant only for my family.” He also said “[a]fter checking my sources, information that was put out in my email was wrong.” The New York Daily News notes

An Army officer familiar with the incident told The Mouth today that the writer is “devastated that the letter was made public. It was never his intention that it go beyond members of his family.”

Some people will view this as Captain Porter fibbing and needing to correct the record. I suspect a great many more will view this as proof positive that the story was true, but Captain Porter was pressured by superiors to claim it is not true.

I’m willing to say that it *absolutely is not true*, but it is still beside the point.

The following is circulating rapidly around the internets. In fact, it is circulating faster than the “Barack Hussein Obama is a closet jihadist” chain emails of yore.

Hello everyone, As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to “The War Zone”. I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn’t say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American’s back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don’t understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country. If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake. In service, CPT Jeffrey S. Porter Battle Captain TF Wasatch American Soldier

This is probably not true. The other anti-Obama chain emails were Snoped to oblivion.

But . . . but . . . that people who really aren’t paying all that much attention would accept this email at face value is Obama’s problem. He may or may not have blown off the troops. We can only guess.

A large number of not-very-involved-in-politics people in fly over country in areas Obama must win have a propensity to accept, at face value, these emails about Obama. (Most Americans, after all, hear about stuff like this and rapidly deduce a nutshell image of the type of person they are dealing with. That person tends to blow off American troops and have friends who tend to try to blow up troops.)

I dare say more people more quickly came to the conclusion that this email was, if not true in an of itself, based on a factual event, than did people come to the conclusion that the John Edwards scandal is true.

100 days of fun left, folks.

John Edwards has a child with his mistress*

On February 21, 2008, the New York Times ran a 3,000 word article with no sources on the record and a lot of Innuendo about John McCain having an affair with a lobbyist.

The first paragraph was one sentence. Here is the second paragraph:

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

The rest of the article went down hill from there.

John Edwards has, for months, been rumored to have fathered a child with Rielle Hunter. There are photographs, there are eyewitnesses, there is even a baby. A close Edwards aide, who is also married with kids, claims to be the father. It is Edwards, however, who has been seen sneaking out of Rielle Hunter’s hotel in the middle of the night.

The press cannot say this is not a story because Edwards is not a candidate. Edwards was a candidate when the story broke months and months ago — the same time the New York Times was willing to run the McCain story.

I would ask why, but it is abundantly apparent the media holds the GOP and Democrats to different standards. We cannot, after all, upset the image of Saint John of North Carolina. His hair is too purty.

*Hey, I don’t know if it is true, but there is a hell of a lot more evidence that it is true than the New York Times‘ allegations about John McCain.

The Replacement

I’m not on the radio for the next week. I’m spending quality time with the family — something that is definitely needed.

They brought on a new guy from Atlanta, Chris Cross, to try out for the show. Wow, he’s awesome. Well done Cumulus.

Pitiful

Barack Obama has cancelled a trip to visit wounded soldiers at Landstuhl so that he can tour Berlin.

RedState is my full time job. It is the largest right of center blogging community on the internet. It's also the most widely read right of center blog on Capitol Hill and most quoted right of center blog in the media. Check it out at www.redstate.com

  • Peach Pundit

In 2006, my friend Clayton asked if I wanted to start a horse race style blog of Georgia politics. It evolved into a site that tries to cover the state objectively, without just being a place to mouth off the party line. It's been a fun release to get away from right wing activism and just cover politics as a hobby. Check it out at www.peachpundit.com
